THE GUT GIRLS tells the tale of five women at the turn of the 20th Century, working in the gutting sheds of Deptford’s Foreign Cattle Market. Strident, brutally truthful and just plain fun, this tale of breaking from convention, rejecting propriety and the complex and beautiful friendships women form feels achingly relevant in today’s world, in which the choices and pursuits of women continue to be challenged and affronted and their bonds undervalued.
This production celebrates the 30th anniversary of the play’s premiere at the Albany Empire in Deptford, and the 100th anniversary of the first Parliamentary Act granting women the right to vote.
This amateur production of “The Gut Girls” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

Set in the 1990s, Shopping and F***ing is a witty and shocking look at a corrosive disposable world and a numb, desperate generation. With a raw mixture of black humour and bleak philosophy, the play shows the lives of disconnected youth reduced to transactions by a dysfunctional consumerist society.
